Warm Audio WA-CX24 Overview The Warm Audio WA-CX24 is a large-diaphragm stereo condenser microphone with two 180° rotatable capsules for precision stereo recording, faithfully recreating the very impossible-to-find AKG C24 down to the vintage-correct components. With independent polar pattern selection on each smooth-sounding CK12-style capsule, the WA-CX24 is ideal for piano, drums, guitar, and other instruments. Each capsule is individually rotatable and offers a variety of polar patterns, including cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-8, and six extra mixed patterns. The CK12-style capsules, based on the WA-CX12 mic, deliver tight bass, naturally rich middle, and silky highs, much like the original inspiration. This makes the WA-CX24 an ideal choice for stereo recording of a variety of sound sources, including voices. A warm 12AY7 tube, polystyrene and Wima film capacitors, handcrafted edge-terminated dual-backplate capsules carved from solid brass, and custom American-made T14 TAB-Funkenwerk output transformers are among the mic’s finest vintage-inspired components. The maximum SPL of 149 dB allows you to manage powerful sound sources. The WA-CX24 comes with a wooden box, tweed travel bag, shockmount, external power source, IEC power connection, and a 9-pin Gotham Swiss XLR cable to provide optimal signal integrity. WA-CX24 delivers critical vintage-correct features, allowing for multiple pickup patterns and varying stereo widths to support stereo recording configurations, which even the most imaginative of engineers and artists will be excited by. Smooth Highs and Vibrant Midrange Response The WA-CX24 captures organic and natural-sounding tone with a pleasing high-end and colorful midrange, so you feel the performance come through. Open, live-sounding drums, wide stereo acoustic guitars, and spacious pianos with natural mids and smooth high ends make this mic an ideal choice for numerous studio recording applications. Capsules are rotatable 180 degrees. Rotating the WA-CX24 capsules gives extraordinary flexibility for perfect stereo imaging in audio recordings. You may alter the location of each capsule individually to change the stereo pickup pattern for different recording approaches, such as XY, Blumlein, mid-side, or a bespoke angle adapted to the sound source and recording situation. Independently assignable Polar-Pattern Switching Mixing polar patterns on the WA-CX24’s two capsules offers greater variety and creative control during recording. Combining multiple patterns, such as cardioid on one capsule and figure-8 on the other, allows you to create a distinctive stereo picture and adjust the microphone’s response to the recording situation. Vintage-Correct Components The WA-CX24 is equipped with two identical CK12-style capsules, like those on the renowned WA-CX12 microphone, manufactured from solid brass and engineered to reproduce sound with vintage accuracy. The mic’s middle section holds a superb 12AY7 tube that was carefully chosen to add vintage warmth to the circuit while maintaining smooth clarity in the high end. To ensure optimal signal integrity to the 9-pin XLR cable, the WA-CX24 includes two excellent, USA-made T14 transformers from TAB-Funkenwork (AMI) that complete the circuit.
