This design provides for better ventilation. The ring magnet, when paired with a copper-clad aluminium voice coil, decreases the weight of the membrane and the voice coil attached to it, allowing the membrane to move or change direction quicker, resulting in a more immediate impulse reaction. The result is great bass imaging, reduced THD at lower frequencies, and a linear frequency response.
