SPL SMC 7.1 with expansion rack Overview The SPL SMC 7.1 Surround Monitor Controller in white increases analog surround monitoring to eight channels. This controller supports two 7.1 and two stereo input sources, enabling you to compare two creations. A subwoofer can also be connected to a stereo input by pressing the LFE button. The SMC 7.1 is available with an extension rack, which enables installation in a normal 19″ rack. In addition, the expansion rack has a switch that may passively redirect the SMC 7.1’s stereo output signal to four stereo outputs. The SMC 7.1 increases analog surround monitoring to eight channels and features Solo, Solo-In-Place, Solo-To-Center,  and a headphone connector Inputs and Speaker Management The SMC 7.1 can accept both 7.1 and stereo inputs. This is significant since the two products are constantly compared during monitoring. Activating the LFE button allows you to add a subwoofer to a stereo input. Each loudspeaker may be turned on and off separately, and the SMC 7.1 remembers the last speakers used with each source. The Solo-In-Place feature now converts the loudspeaker’s on/off switches into solo buttons. This enables each loudspeaker to be heard independently at its place. Solo-To-Center positions the selected loudspeaker on the center speaker, allowing it to be heard precisely from the front if critical listening is necessary. An alternate output is provided for connecting a pair of stereo loudspeakers. The 45mm all-aluminum rotary knob controls an 8-level potentiometer. Mute is especially critical when the DAW is transmitting full-range audio rubbish due to an error. Mute may be simply applied to protect speakers and hearing. Headphones can be used as a monitoring device instead of speakers. The headphones contain an on/off button and a volume control. Expansion Rack The SMC 7.1 may be put in the Expansion Rack and bolted into a 19-inch rack. The Expansion Rack has a switch that passively routes the SMC 7.1’s stereo output signal to four stereo outputs. In this configuration, the SMC 7.1 gains three more stereo outputs. This enables the management and monitoring of a 7.1 loudspeaker array as well as full-range, mid-range, and near-field stereo speakers.
