Drawmer MXPRO60 Overview Drawmer’s MX60-Pro Front End One is a one-of-a-kind and extremely adaptable processor that serves as an all-in-one device for processing signals for final output to tape, hard disc, or PA systems in project studios and live settings. The MX60-Pro, which combines the capabilities of a microphone and instrument preamp, DI box, analog VCA compressor, de-esser, parametric equalizer, Program Adaptive gate, and hard limiter, can effectively fill the shoes of a whole studio in a single 19″ 1 RU machine. The MX60-Pro has numerous I/O options, including XLR and 1/4″ inputs and outputs with balanced and unbalanced options, a 1/4″ instrument input on the front panel, and a 1/4″ auxiliary insert point, making it highly compatible with a wide range of sources, from low-impedance microphones to keyboard and guitar instruments. The unit also includes several useful processing functions, including phase reversal, 48V phantom power, adjustable Q control for the EQ section, high- and low-pass filters, a bright boost for instrument inputs, and an innovative Tubesound circuit with 3-band drive, which uses solid-state electronics to simulate the saturation effect of real vacuum tubes. Connections The MXPRO60 may be utilized in balanced systems at 4 dBu operating levels, using the XLR or balanced TRS jack output connections, or unbalanced at -10 dBu, using the independent TS output. Inputs include balanced low-impedance microphones with switchable 48V phantom power, a balanced line at 4 dBu via a TRS connector, and an unbalanced line at -10 dBu via an unbalanced TS jack. A second instrument input is available on the front panel for use with sources that need a high-impedance input stage, such as electric guitars and basses. This section includes just 20 dB and Bright switches. An insert point is given immediately after the preamp stage, followed by phase reverse and high-pass filter controls. A four-section LED meter. Pre-amplifier Section The MXPRO60 is directly to the line input of a tape recorder, hard disc recorder, mixer, or other line-level compatible device. However, by using the line input or insert return as an input, the MX60 may be utilized in a mixing console’s insert loop to enable dynamic processing, equalization, or Tubesound processing. Program Adaptive Gate The MXPRO30 human voice is structurally complicated and has a large dynamic range, thus the MX60 features a high-performance dynamics section with a gate, a de-esser, and a compressor section. The gate is simple to set up and silences signal that go below a user-specified minimum threshold. There are both fast and slow release settings to handle various sorts of materials. VCA Compressor Section The high-quality VCA compressor limits the signal’s dynamic range by decreasing the strength of strong sounds that exceed a user-defined threshold. The attack and release periods are both program adaptable, leaving the user to set just the ratio, threshold, and make-up gain. Though simple to set up, the gate section is based on the Drawmer DL241/MX30 and, like the compressor, is program-adaptive, which means the time constants are automatically optimized for the material being processed. De-Esser The MXPRO30 de-esser is virtually automated, needing the user to merely pick a male or female preset and modify the quantity of de-testing that occurs. Only the portion of the spectrum containing sibilant sounds is subjected to gain reduction, preventing the lisping effect of simpler de-users. Tube sound Section The Tubesound component is built around low-noise solid-state circuitry that simulates vacuum tube overdrive. The signal is separated into three frequency bands, each having a variable driving control. Peak Limiter A fixed threshold limiter is located at the end of the signal path, just before the output level control (Master Fader). The limiter has a fixed preset threshold of 20 dBu, and the Master Fader reduces the signal level to the desired level. A hard limit LED signals the start of restriction. The soft limit LED shows a level 6 dB below the primary limiter, where signal peaks are gradually rounded before the commencement of harsh limiting. Drawmer MXPRO60 Front End One Specification: Channel Strip for Studio and Live Sound Selectable for mic, line, or instrument-level signals. Switchable 48V phantom power with phase reverse. Program-adaptive gate, VCA compressor, de-esser, and equalizer The multiband “Tube Saturation” option provides mild warming effects. Limiter at the output stage with a predetermined threshold ( 16dB)
