Dave Smith Repeats With the Prophet Rev2, a 61-key analog synthesizer that continues where the renowned Prophet ’08 left off, Sequential ups the ante (again). With two DCOs, a sub-oscillator, and a 2/4-pole resonant lowpass Curtis filter per voice, the Rev2 is a true beast that comes in eight-voice or sixteen-voice versions (this is the eight-voice version). The bi-timbral operation, waveshape modulation, a powerful onboard FX engine, a sophisticated polyphonic step sequencer, a sharp OLED display, and USB are other features. With velocity and channel aftertouch, the high-end, five-octave, semi-weighted keyboard feels perfect. Sweetwater’s synth enthusiasts are thrilled with Sequential’s Prophet Rev2. Dave has produced yet another incredible synth, and it’s quite affordable. A Prophet ’08 — accelerated Dave Smith’s Prophet ’08 synth is being revamped with the Prophet Rev2, aiming to enhance and improve its original design at a more affordable price. Existing Prophet ’08 libraries are available for download, and the new Rev2 capabilities allow users to enhance them. The 16-voice version of the Prophet Rev2 doubles polyphony and allows for various voice assignments, such as large two-hand chords, layering two 8-voice patches, dividing the keyboard into two separate 8-voice instruments, and performing duets. Despite having half the polyphony, the 8-voice version still offers the same freedom in voice distribution. Curtis filters timeless style and amazing sound. Based on the chip architecture developed by the late Doug Curtis, the synth’s per-voice 2/4-pole, resonant lowpass filters are primarily responsible for its bold, authoritative sonics. The Prophet ’08 and several other vintage synthesizers from the 1970s and 1980s both employ these identical filters. You may adjust motion and harmonic complexity using the separate Audio Mod control in the filter section. Shape Mod offers you a great deal of acoustic versatility. The Prophet Rev2 has two digitally controlled analog oscillators per voice, each with four selectable waveforms: square, triangle, sawtooth, and sawtooth triangle. You may endlessly expand your sound options by continually adjusting the pulse width of any waveform with the waveshape modulation tool. Additionally, you may use an LFO or other modulation source to continually modify timbre or manually adjust a particular waveshape width using the Shape Mod control. Even patches with only one oscillator gain depth and complexity. robust mod matrix and FX engine Phase shift, chorus, ring mod, distortion, regular and vintage-style BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) delays, and delicious reverbs are all generated by the Prophet Rev2’s powerful effects processor. You may use the Rev2 in stacked or split-voice mode to offer each layer a unique effect. You may even change the effects settings in the Prophet Rev2’s Mod Matrix, a popular feature from the Prophet ’08. The Mod Matrix is twice as large as the Rev2 and has eight distinct slots in addition to additional sources and destinations. A haven for sound designers. Step sequencer with polyphony Sequential equipped the Prophet Rev2 with a powerful polyphonic step sequencer that can process up to 64 steps, each containing six notes. A versatile tool for composition or performance, the poly-step sequencer lets you produce a unique sequence for each layer in split-voice or stacked mode. In gated mode, the sequencer may also be used as a modulation source, enabling the generation of complex modulation using up to four different 16-step sequences. Sequences may provide ties and pauses and synchronize with an external MIDI clock. In addition to allowing note repetitions and re-latching, the independent arpeggiator may synchronize with an external MIDI clock. Dependability, playability, programmability, and tweakability The Prophet Rev2’s knob-per-function top panel offers per-knob programmability and quick access to all operations, including 512 killer factory patches and 512 rewritable user programs. Grab a knob and begin tweaking to control any parameter in real-time. The premium 5-octave, semi-weighted keybed of the Rev2 is very smooth and facilitated by velocity and aftertouch. Similar to previous DSI synthesizers, the Rev2 synth is built to survive harsh environments. The Prophet Rev2’s integrated power supply, USB connectivity, and bright, clear OLED display make it the perfect polysynth for usage on stage and in a studio.
