Sequential REV2 16-Voice Overview Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 is a 16-voice polyphonic synthesizer that improves on the original Prophet ’08 synthesizer’s architecture and functionality. The Prophet Rev2 retains all of its sound capabilities, including two digitally controlled analog oscillators (DCO) per voice (plus octave on oscillator 1) with selectable sawtooth, triangle, saw/triangle mix, pulse-wave, and pulse-width modulation, as well as the signature analog Curtis low-pass filter with 2- or 4-pole selections (resonating in 4-pole mode). Furthermore, the synthesizer has three envelope generators to control the filter and VCA, the third of which is assignable and has ADSR delay and loop capabilities. Other prominent features include a doubling of the modulation matrix, waveshape modulation across all waveforms, digital effects per layer in stacked or split voice mode, a polyphonic step sequencer per layer, and more. The Prophet Rev2 works with any current libraries or patches from the Prophet ’08. The instrument has inputs for a sustain pedal and an expression pedal, which also serves as an input for control voltage for further sound manipulation. Four 1/4″ unbalanced TS outputs provide audio output, while a stereo 1/4″ headphone connector enables playback in quiet locations. 16-voice polyphony Allocate 16 voices as you see fit. Perform two-fisted chords, stack two 8-voice sounds for enormous, intricate soundscapes, or divide the keyboard into two distinct 8-voice instruments. Bold Sound The Prophet Rev2 produces a powerful, punchy sound with 2/4-pole, low-pass, resonant Curtis filters per voice. These are the identical filters used in not just the Prophet ’08, but also many iconic instruments from the 1970s and 1980s. A separate Audio Mod control offers more harmonic complexity and movement. Waveshape Modulation Use Waveshape Modulation to adjust the “pulse width” of any of the four waveforms (sawtooth, saw tri, triangle, square). Shape Mod Control: Adjust waveform width manually or utilize an LFO to change timbre continually. Explore new tonal possibilities with single oscillators. Effects by Layer The effect section includes reverb, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, phase shifter, ring modulation, and distortion. Use stacked or split voice mode to apply various effects to each layer. The Mod Matrix allows for the modulation of effect parameters. Extended Modulation Matrix The Mod Matrix has been doubled in size, now with 8 distinct slots and multiple sources and destinations. Poly-Step Sequencing The Polyphonic Step Sequencer supports up to 64 steps with up to 6 notes per step. When working in stacked or split voice mode, create a separate sequence for each layer. This makes it a valuable instrument for composition or performance. The Gate Mode modulation sequencer supports up to four 16-step sequences for sophisticated modulation. Sequences support ties and rest and sync to an external MIDI clock. Arpeggiator allows for note repetition, re-latching, and synchronization with an external MIDI clock.
