Solid State Logic Super 9000 Channel Strip

SSL Super 9000 Channel Strip Overview The 9000 Series became the current music production standard, trusted by the world’s most prominent musicians and engineers. Its accuracy and depth depended on seminal hip-hop and R&B musicians such as Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, Mary J. Blige, and Nicki Minaj. Rock legends Metallica and Wyclef Jean of the Fugees have installed 9000 Series consoles in their own studios. Its sonic profile—clean, wide, and open with extended highs, ultra-deep lows, and punch that could knock you down in the control room—paved the way for the present SSL sound. Prestigious facilities, including Abbey Road and Metropolis facilities in London, Real World in Bath, Record Plant in Los Angeles, and Avatar/Power Station in New York, immediately adopted the 9000 Series as their standard. Top engineers, such as Manny Marroquin (Alicia Keys, Rihanna), Michael Brauer (Coldplay, John Mayer), Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin), and Tony Maserati (Jay-Z, Beyoncé), have employed SuperAnalogue sound to create genre-defining songs. SuperAnalog™ Technology SuperAnalogue™ technology produces a signal route so transparent and broad in bandwidth that nothing is lost, putting the engineer directly in the room with the artist. Its key design elements include a super-wide audio bandwidth, a ruler-flat frequency response, ultra-low transient intermodulation distortion, no electrolytic capacitors in the audio path, extremely low noise and harmonic distortion, and an exceptionally low phase shift across the audible spectrum. The current “SSL sound” is defined by unparalleled punch, definition, and a larger-than-life soundstage, making SuperAnalogue™ consoles the professional’s choice for music creation. Dual Mic Amp: SuperAnalogue™ or VHD™ Select from two world-class preamplifiers, exactly like on our flagship Duality console. Choose the high-headroom SuperAnalogue™ preamp for exceptional clarity, or choose the Variable Harmonic Drive (VHD) circuit to enhance character and saturation. Shape your tone by using 2nd-order harmonics for a rich, valve-like warmth, or 3rd-order harmonics for a harsher, transistor-style edge. The INPUT FLIP button allows you to route the line input via the VHD preamp, making it simple to add harmonic color to DAW stems, line-level instruments, and sources. Full Dynamics Processing. The Super 9000 has our signature contemporary dynamics section, which provides unparalleled control and punch. The compressor is built on the high-performance THAT 2181A VCA and has a switchable Fast Attack mode as well as the Peak Detect option, which was initially featured on the SL 9000 console and carried over to the Duality series. It also has SSL’s traditional Expander/Gate section, which includes configurable hysteresis in the Threshold, as well as a HOLD control for precise gate and downward expansion regulation. Furthermore, Super 9000 allows the dynamics section to be shifted before and after EQ. Pink (292) and Black (242) EQ Circuits with HP/LP Filters Select your SSL EQ: the 292 G-Series ‘Pink Knob’ EQ circuit or the 242 E-Series ‘Black Knob’ EQ circuit. The 292’s variable-Q design produces smooth, broad boosts and tighter cuts as you push harder, while its shelves have a steeper slope and the distinctive ‘undershoot/overshoot’ for that famed SSL musicality. The 242’s constant-Q design, created in partnership with Sir George Martin, provides greater surgical control than the 292. The Super 9000 EQ section includes two buttons labeled ‘E Bell/G÷3’ and ‘Gx3/E Bell.’ When in 292 mode, these buttons split the low-mid frequency by 3 and multiply the high-mid frequency by 3, allowing the mid-bands to target frequencies much beyond their regular range, giving them amazing versatility. In 242 mode, these buttons toggle the low-frequency and high-frequency bands between bell and shelving modes. As anticipated from SSL, the EQ may be placed in the dynamics sidechain, and the High-Pass (18dB/oct) and low-pass (12 dB/oct) filters can be completely bypassed or routed to the input or dynamics sidechain for complete control. Flexible Processing and Routing The Super 9000 incorporates a balanced insert point for connecting extra outboard gear to the signal stream. The insert can be moved from its original place (immediately following the input stage) to the output stage, right before the output trim. The Super 9000 additionally has a dedicated external dynamics sidechain (key) input, configurable processing reordering, and dynamics sidechain linking, making it perfect for stereo use with two Super 9000 units. The Input Flip button sends the LINE input to the Mic Pre, while the rear MIC connection is routed through the LINE path—a simple method to process line-level DAW returns with saturation/distortion processing at the mix stage without having to manually re-patch. Solid State Logic Super 9000 Specifications:  The premium mono channel strip has two mic preamps, a 4-band EQ, and dynamics.  Selectable mic preamps: SuperAnalogue (9000) and VHD (Duality).  Selectable mic pre-impedance: 1.3 kΩ or 11 kΩ.  Includes 48V phantom power, polarity inversion, pad, and line input switches.  Input Flip shifts the VHD Pre from the Mic path to the Line In path.  Switchable 4-band EQ with 292 “Pink Knob” and 242 “Black Knob” modes.  9000/Duality dynamics section with compressor, gate, and expander.  The dynamics sidechain link connects two Super 9000 compressors for stereo operation.  Input via external sidechain (key).  Highpass and lowpass filters with 8 dB and 12 dB octaves, respectively.  Insert point for connecting external processors to the signal pipeline.  Switching between sidechains: Filters to Dynamics and EQ to Dynamics.  Flexible process order routing: filters to input, dynamics post-EQ, and insert to output.  Adjustable input and output metering.  Trim the line output.
